June 2015 Update

All Is Quiet in Gravyville

I wish I had some exciting new purchases to write about, but I’ve got nothing.  I haven’t made a purchase since mid-May.  I may be experiencing a crisis of confidence in myself, or it may be that I’ve become uncomfortable with valuations.  Perhaps a little of both.  The overriding concern for me Continue reading →

May 2015 Update

Moving Forward – Slowly

By this time in the year, I had hoped that our portfolio’s dividend growth would have progressed further than it has.  I continue making progress in the area of forward dividend income, though it feels as if I’m walking up a sand dune.  I must admit that I struggle to find additional investments that I am comfortable with.  For May, I made a single add and received 4 small to moderate dividend increases.  Not all bad, but I will continue with my efforts to improve.  I’ve been keeping my eye on utilities and REIT stocks as of late.  As a group, these stocks are being pressured by fears of a rate hike. April 2015 Update

Portfolio Additions
April was a pretty mundane month.  No stock sales took place and in the realm of stock purchases, a single buy was transacted.

I added a few shares of Johnson and Johnson (JNJ).  I am attempting to solidify our dividend income a bit by adding to our dividend superstar holdings.  Ideally, I would like these core holdings to generate at least 50% of our dividend income.  At this time, that number is a little over 40%.  Adding to JNJ is part of the plan.   Continue reading →

The New Year – Financially Uneventful So Far

I failed to post an update for January.  I was a little distracted and frankly, I had little to report.  No transactions occurred during the month and dividend increases were unexciting.  An increase from AT&T and Realty Income increased my forward income by .36%.  Enough said.   Continue reading →

Portfolio activity – December 2014

During the month of December I added to two of my current holdings, those being General Electric and AT&T.  My current goal is to work my new IRA (from a 401K rollover) into the market to generate additional dividend income.  Decent values are very hard to come by these days.  Even after these two smaller purchases and a few slightly larger purchases in November, my IRA still sits at 86% cash.  Worse yet, I’m out of ideas at the moment.   Continue reading →

November 2014 update

Retired….one month in
I’m just wrapping up my first month of retirement.  I think I’m going to like this gig.  I have to say that I very much enjoy spending time at home and just doing whatever I feel like doing.  I highly recommend it.  I’m sure that boredom will set in eventually, but it’s not here yet.  On the flip side, I have to concern myself even more with growing a stream of dividend income.

On the Investing Front
I have spent a fair amount of my time looking for stocks that I view as buy candidates.  I am attempting to get my new IRA working to generate some income.  In this market, my level of enthusiasm is very muted. Continue reading →

July/August 2014 update

What’s my focus?
I (along with my wife) began my dividend income journey only a few years ago.  I knew that I wanted to create dividend income.  I also knew that since I began so late in life that the income would not likely allow us to live in a large house on a private island.  In an attempt to be a realist, I set a goal of using dividend income simply to enhance our “guaranteed” income such as pensions and Social Security.
